The Introverted Misfit Presents:
Misfit Meet-Ups For Shy, Socially Awkward, and/or Low Support Needs Autistic People
Are you a shy, awkward (or low support needs Autistic) adult in the Auburn/Opelika area who wants to meet people and practice your social skills in low-pressure environments? Come to the next Misfit Meet-Up where you can socialize with like-minded individuals in a judgement-free social environment!
Join my Misfit Meet-Ups mailing list below to be notified about organized meet-ups and events at various establishments in the surrounding area. I aim to host meet-ups at least once a month at a variety of places. Potential activities include painting pottery, game nights, hikes/walks, creating art, coffee shops, and more!
I’m Caroline, your event organizer and social confidence facilitator!
I’m an introverted woman with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Level 1, which is something that contributed to my severe social anxiety for years. After I improved my social skills and became more socially confident, I created my brand, The Introverted Misfit, to help other shy and awkward introverted “misfits” become socially confident without acting like someone they’re not.
Misfit Meet-Ups are not just about social skills — they are about building community!
Although I offer 1-on-1 coaching to shy and awkward (or autistic) people, these events are not strictly about improving your social skills; this is community-building, because I believe real social confidence comes with real-life connections without feeling the need to be perfect.
In these organized meet-ups and events, I facilitate an environment in which you can practice your social skills and overcome your shyness in a low-pressure judgement-free environment among like-minded people. It's like a social group but a little different, because instead of hosting meet-ups solely in closed rooms, we also participate in the community by going to different places in the Auburn/Opelika area.
What makes a Misfit Meet-Up so much better than a regular social outing?
This is not just a random hangout session with strangers. These are organized and facilitated meet-ups and events specifically designed to help shy, introverted and awkward “misfits” improve their social skills with me — someone who has been exactly where you are right now — and other individuals who may have similar struggles. This creates less stressful social environments in which you can practice your social and conversational skills without fear of judgement. Plus, we'll have lots of fun going to different establishments around the town!

These meet-ups are more suited towards LSN Autistic people who want to become more comfortable in social situations. However, while I don’t have the resources to provide care for Autistic adults with substantial needs, you are welcome to accompany your loved one to any of the meet-ups you think are well-suited for their needs.

Nope. I happen to be on the spectrum as do many of the meet-up attendees, but these meet-ups are not only for Autistic people. As long as you identify as shy and/or socially awkward, these meet-ups will give you the support and environment you need to become socially confident.

No. While most people who come to these meet-ups are more introverted, you don’t have to identify as an introvert to come. These meet-ups are for anyone who struggles socially and wants to improve — extrovert or introvert alike.

Some meet-ups will be held at different businesses and establishments in the Auburn/Opelika area so that we can socialize in real-life environments. This includes places where you can paint pottery, create art, hike/walk, eat, and more.
Other meet-ups and events will be held in more private settings where we can do more focused socializing in calmer environments.

Some meet-ups may require a small donation from attendees in order to book reservations and provide food for the group. In this case, I will collect the money and use it for this purpose alone (no profit goes to me). For other meet-ups, the only money you’ll have to pay is to the establishment we go to, like a meal at a restaurant, a drink at a coffee shop, a ticket to an event, etc.
Other non-meet-up events I may host like workshops and trainings may require a cost.
